ANSWERING MY OWN QUESTIONS ABOUT HAPPINESS, MISINFORMATION, AND CRITICAL THINKING
why the devil?
The Devil, as an archetype, reflects qualities that are important to progress. First is the desire to challenge (totalitarian) authorities attempting to control human behaviour and thought – thinking critically about whom to follow and why. Second, is a clear understanding of deception and misinformation (the prince of lies, as many call the Devil, has a keen eye for lies and disinformation). And third, and perhaps the most critical part of this project, is the pursuit of happiness.
It was recurring dream in which I am the Devil that helped me remember a critical truth:
ACCEPTING THE TRUTH FOR WHAT IT IS, MORE THAN WHAT WE WANT IT TO BE, IS ALWAYS THE RIGHT APPROACH.
Yes, The idea for this project came from a dream in which I saw myself as I truly am. A sequence of dreams showed me that I was not living up to my potential because of external expectation. It seems like a cliché when I read it as I type it. AND It seems old and derivative. THIS is, however, the one idea that moved me forward after spending more than a year in a state of deplorable complacency.
They say the Devil is in the details, and what people often mean by this aphorism is that details are essential to critical matters. As a result of this understanding, the conversations I’ve had with the world, and the ones I intend to have here, are about pressing issues that affect us all.
Happiness is one of the fundamental motivators of human behaviour, and two aspects of society are the most pervasive hindrances to happiness: a lack of critical thinking and misinformation.
